From our research though it was very evident that many people did not apply for these benefits even when they were entitled to. This was due to a variety of reasons: not knowing how to go about it; not having the necessary IT skills; feeling embarrassed for their children and themselves; and no time to prioritise this due to other pressures. And so the figures are not a true reflection of the extent of the problem.
